To The Men & Women Who Have Served And Paid The Ultimate Price For Freedom - You Will Never Be Forgotten

Curtis "Moose" Oakes

SSG Curtis "Moose" Oakes was a Fister, Fire Support Specialist assigned to 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, KY. Curtis enlisted in the Army in 2003, after graduating from Hocking College with Associates degrees both in Wildlife Management and Aquaculture. He felt a strong desire to serve his country, to help protect the freedoms and safety of this country and those he loved. Curtis loved fishing, hunting, being outdoors and enjoying life. He stood 6'9", and was known affectionately as "Moose", and "Oaktree". He was known for his smile, he was rarely without it. He loved making people happy, making them laugh, and always laughed heartily at himself and his own jokes. He was active in the forestry club and FFA in high school, and the wildlife club in college. He graduated college with honors.

While Curtis's hometown is Athens, Ohio, he has strong ties with Weatherford, Texas. Curtis was killed in action November 29th, 2010, alongside Austin Staggs and four other brothers in arms. Austin is from Weatherford, the same town where my brother and his family reside. Fate, forging destiny, has brought us all together because of our Hero sons.

Curtis has both a son and a daughter, and leaves us all with his legacy of love and laughter. A true Hero in every way, for his service, his sacrifice, and above all his life.

We Are Honored To Salute You!

Curtis "Moose" Oakes

May You Eternal Light Never Be Extinguished!
